Niv Bar Mexico City

Niv Bar Mexico City

CDMX is a foodie’s dreamworld to say the least. From street stands with the best quesadillas and tacos to Michelin fine dining, you get it all. Incredible hospitality and every possible cuisine elevated to the next level. Below is my hit list!

Entremar

For when you can’t get a reso at contramar, look no further than its sister restaurant entremar! Fresh seafood, a lively atmosphere, and an almost identical menu to contramar. Charred fish with warm tortillas, the best tuna tostadas, and don’t forget the fun rotating dessert tray.

Favourite Dishes: pescado a la talla, tuna tostada, octopus ceviche

Octavia

Octavia is a fine-dining restaurant that pays close attention to detail like no other. It is a calm haven that celebrates contemporary mexican cuisine. The culinary journey is crafted by Michelin-starred chef Jonatan Gomez Luna.

Favourite Dishes: Quelite Leaf + Hamachi Tartare, Shrimp aguachile, Pork Belly + Mushrooms + Mole de Xico

Meroma

Located in Roma, Meroma was started by two chefs Mercedes and Rodney, who graduated from the International Culinary Center in New York. Meroma places a lot of attention on sustainability, local ingredients, and a calm atmosphere. The lower level bar invites you in, only to be led upstairs to an incredible meal.

Favourite Dishes: mushroom agnolotti, cavatelli braised beef, condensed goat milk tart with cardamom whip

Taverna

Mediterranean food matched with what I would consider to be one of the most beautiful restaurants in the city. It is housed in a restored hacienda from the early 1900s, solely candlelit, making it a fun date spot. Their take on seafood rice is a mix between paella and hearty soup - unreal. Don’t forget to get Taverna’s show-stopper, dates stuffed with chorizo!

Favourite dishes: chorizo dates, seafood rice, beet carpaccio, labneh ice cream

Taqueria Orinoco

This retro taqueria has locations all over the city and is the perfect late-night bite after your one too many mezcalitas.

Favourites: gringa & al pastor tacos

Kill Bill

Hi-Fi Sushi & Robata…. A vinyl omakase experience - how fun?! Out of this world experience with such attention to detail.

Molino “El Pujol”

By the same chef as Pujol (one of San Pellegrino’s 50 best restaurants in the world) molino “el pujol” is a tiny casual restaurant with fresh made corn tortillas. The team behind Pujol got creative with this small menu consisting of ingredients like acuyo leaves and chicatana ants. This establishment supports families across Mexico who produce their own heirloom corn varieties.

Favourites: taco de aguacate, chilaquiles

Jenni’s Quesadillas

A one-woman show in Roma Norte! Be prepared to converse only in spanish and wait in line for this one. However, it is most definitely worth the wait for Jenni’s famous quesadillas. The little cart is set up on the corner of Colima and Merida every morning, with choose whatever-your-heart-desires fillings.

NIV

Favourite Dishes: ravioli, charcoal babaganoush, earl grey tart

Restaurante Rosetta

You go for the service, the interior, the hidden rosetta bar upstairs to have your dessert.

Favourites: Short rib polenta, cabbage tacos, poached pears
